The East Street Cafe has Huge portions. Service is always great.
Great chicken teriyaki, really fast. Lovely spot.
Quick lunchtime service. Good inexpensive food.
Good food, not too pricy given the portion size.
Had shrimp tempura appetizer.....very well done - nice crispy and dry coating - more veggies than shrimp but still, for the price, well worth it. Entree was Pancit noodles from the Philippines - tasty but a little generic in the spice category. Good drinks and excellent service and the price was right. Recommended. Would go again to try other dishes for sure.
So, I was looking forward to trying East Street Cafe at the Union Station since it had been recommended by many friends in Washington, DC. I tried their Grilled Garlic Shrimp (Malaysia) house special during my visit to this place. I must say that I was a bit underwhelmed by it. This dish had a nice coconut flavor to it but the choice of noodles for the dish was mediocre, I believe it was Linguine pasta. This dish does not come with a lot of vegetables, so if you are a vegetable person like me, this is not for you. Also, this dish is not as spicy as advertised on the menus. I had to ask one of their staff to bring me a cup of spicy sauce to turn up the spiciness a notch. For a dish pricing at $15-$16, I was hoping for a better-quality Asian dish. Three stars only because of their friendly staff. I might return one day to try another dish.
Very fast service, meal was succulent.
The true crown jewel of Union Station cuisine. Love it or hate it (I love it) you won't find another restaurant like it.
Great food and service!
Embeche is extremely delicious. Can't wait to visit again
Has quite a few vegetarian options
Good food
Good thai food and fast service. Offers good variety of fried rice. Great food quantity for the price. Come friday afternoon and you will see almost an hour wait line. This place is "desis" paradise for fried rice.
last night was the first time in this place. But It is surely not the last. We had great time with the generous service, with the high quality meal and fine drinks and with the modest pay. We will absolutely visit there soon.
I ordered the Thai basil fried rice and was quite disappointed. The entire dish lacked flavor. I’ve had this dish at several other restaurants in DC and this pales in comparison. It simply tasted like rice with scrambled eggs and pepper. I couldn’t get the distinct basil taste. I would say this dish is edible but I would not recommend it nor get it ever again.
I have never experienced a better fried rice then this place! Their fried rice is the best ever! The staff is polite and friendly. I am so great full to have this restaurant in my life!
The food was terrific. We even loved the thai ice tea. It was our first time trying it and now we are addicted to them. Highly recommend this resturant .
Quick, fast, helpful service. Was not full or noisy unlike Uno's where there was a wait. So we enjoyed salmon, laksa and garlic shrimp. Will try again.
Best Thai Fried Rice around Union Station area!!!
Lovely intimate setting and delicious food!
They have the best Shrimp and Chicken basil fried rice. Delicious and cooked to order
I enjoy being able to look out over the hustle and bustle of Union Station and still be able to have a nice conversation without things being too loud. Good food at a decent price.
- foods good- staff is pretty friendly- food portion is a lot- service is pretty quick- a good atmosphere inside the restaurant area - prices are good - overall I'd recommend it
I'd come here every time I could when I visit downtown (and Im not in a rush). It has never been extremely busy when my family and I come. I do enjoy having a variety of asian cuisine.
The quieter side of the Hill. This is where I go when I just need to unwind from a day of meetings and stress.Pad thai and hot green tea does the trick. Spicy curry if it’s been a really rough day. The staff are always friendly and prompt. And you’re less likely to be sitting next to one of the Brightest Young Things — but there I go dating myself, citing a blog from the 2000s. ☕ï¸
Food is delicious
Not bad, definitely better quality than the other Asian cuisine options in Union Station, but with a higher price to match.I had the Singapore Noodles (chicken, shrimp, veggies, and curry) and it was quite tasty. It was also a huge portion. Not the best I've had but it was satisfying and enjoyable. I had the crispy Shanghai rolls and steamed gyoza as well, both were excellent and my favorite part of the meal.Good stuff, I'd come back.
Good food. Not busy when we went for a Friday lunch. Variety of different Asian cuisine, but all made well. The Laksa Curry and Singapore noodle were delicious! Nice warm outdoorsy ambiance during the cold of winter. Would eat here again!
Great pan-Asian restaurant with a very wide variety of dishes offered at reasonable prices. One of the best options in Union Station. The staff were pleasant and fast.
Good restaurant!
Of all the food choices in Union Station, this one stands alone far above the rest. It succeeds at being a true asian bistro offering a blend of Chinese, Vietnamese, Japanese and Phillipino cuisine. The service is abrupt at times but we've learned they are of a "Soup Nazi" mentality... they don't have to be nice, they will always reach capacity within 10 minutes of opening for lunch. I frequent East St. Cafe at least once a week, sometimes twice. The food is delicious and consistent which will keep you from punching your server in the face. Try the green or red curry, spicy ginger beef, drunken noodles or any of the house specialties.
This spot is worth visiting. They serve large portions for affordable rates. Regularly well kept and with awesome ambience. Will come back again.
I was wonderfully surprised by how good my food was, being that the menu had several dishes from different Asian countries. I ordered the fresh summer roll (lumpia sariwa) and adobo fried rice. Both dishes were authentic in taste. I couldn’t stop eating the adobo fried rice and quickly devoured the fresh summer rolls. I was informed that the chef for the day is a Filipino. I’m glad I gave this sit-down restaurant in Union Station a try. Will definitely come back next time I am taking Amtrak.
This is the best!!
This is one of the better restaurants in Union Station. Their service is efficient and consistent which is helpful if you want to catch a train. I find the fried rice particularly tasty. You can also tell them how much spice to add in the dishes and they are very accommodating. The basil based dishes are also very good. This restaurant will satisfy your Chinese/Thai cravings.
Spicy beef fried rice was tremendous. Prompt service
